School History
Clarkrange High School began in the fall of 1919 originally as a junior high school with only grades 9 and 10. Courses offered were English I and II, Algebra I and II, Civics, General Science and Biology. In 1927 the high school was officially made a high school with three teachers. In 1928 the first class graduated with four students. During this time a teacher, Miss Hale, began the home economics department (FACS) as we know it today. In 1927, when the school became a senior high school, chemistry and physics were added to the curriculum with the first science lab tables being hand made by Mr. Horace Peters who was the first regular science teacher. In the fall of 1937, the Vocational Agricultural Department was added. Mr. Harry Martin began the department and now the FFA department has an outstanding program with national and state recognition. In 1946, a commercial department was added with Mrs. Flossie Turner adding the department with only one typewriter and today the national club is active with FBLA and a state of the art computer lab for the instruction of students. JROTC program was added in the late 1980’s and Art came in 1995. In 1993, we started dual enrollment classes with Roane State Community College.
